Finding God in the Busy
Dear Sisters in Christ,
Happy August! I have missed you.
August is a month that can barely contain all of its feast days. You name it, and it is pretty much in there! August 6 marks the Transfiguration of the Lord, and August 15 is the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Saints galore abound—from St. Augustine and St. Monica to St. Maximilian Kolbe and the Passion of St. John the Baptist.
In a way, this probably encapsulates how many of you mommies are feeling right now—barely able to keep up with the countless activities, commitments, and schedules filling our calendars, as though we could possibly fit one more thing into a 24-hour day.
I invite you to sit back for just a moment and be still. Listen to the hum of the air conditioner if you are in the car, or the gentle buzz of an insect if you are outside. I am sitting in a spot where I can look up at a tree, and I love gazing at the sky through the leaves and branches.
This is a practice my husband taught me. He says that looking up at the sky through the trees clears his mind and helps him make important decisions. Right now, I do not have a pressing decision to make, but I do have a myriad of scheduling changes happening all around me. And as I look up at the sky, I think of all of you and the many things you juggle each day.
Moms are truly amazing people. You, my sisters, are amazing. You mend hearts and wounds. You nourish your families with warm meals. You give love even when it is not always reciprocated. You clothe, transport, wash, rinse, and repeat. You teach faith and lead by example. You are heroes in everyday action.
This August, I simply wanted to write you a brief note to remind you to take a deep breath, look up through the trees, and remember the incredible woman God created you to be.
August marks the beginning of a new school year and, with it, an uptick in our “heroine powers.” But we do not have to do it all on our own. We can lean on God, on Our Blessed Mother, and on one another.
I am honored and grateful to walk alongside each of you in this beautiful and noble vocation called motherhood.
So, as we begin another school year, let us…
Love like Mary. Trust like Mary. Pray like Mary.
We’ve got this—and, most importantly, God’s got us.
Many blessings,
Estefania
